Sometimes a 1–0 win tells you more than a 4–2 ever could. Arsenal against Aston Villa at Villa Park was a masterclass in control — ninety minutes of tactical suffocation delivered so calmly that Villa barely registered a shot on target for the entire game.

Riccardo Calafiori was the unpredictable element. The Italian defender — increasingly important to Arsenal's build-up since his arrival from Bologna — dictated tempo, picked passes that lesser players would not even imagine, and appeared on the ball constantly in ways that disrupted Villa's ability to press with any coherence. He finished the game having touched it more than most Villa midfielders.

Bukayo Saka broke the deadlock in the 59th minute. The move originated from Eze, who slipped a perfectly-weighted pass into Calafiori's run. Calafiori drove to the byline and cut it back — Saka's finish was low, placed, and clinical. Villa Park fell silent. David Raya, in the Arsenal goal, was essentially untested all evening. Zero saves required from the Spaniard. Arsenal's defensive line was that commanding.

Villa, to be honest, were poor. Zero shots on target in a Premier League match at their own ground against a top-six side is a damning statistic. Whatever tactical plan they arrived with was neutralised completely, and their forwards never found a way to threaten a well-organised Arsenal backline.

Six points from six for Arsenal. The champions look composed, organised, and deeply difficult to play against — and they won this one away from home, at Villa Park, with none of the drama that surrounds a title contender in hostile territory. This was not a spectacular victory — but it was perhaps a more impressive one for that.
