| 13' | Doué (PSG) | Unassisted | On a lethal Parisian break, Doué drove from the left channel and uncorked a low, skidding drive from the edge of the box into the bottom corner. 0–1. |
| 15' | Dembélé (PSG) | Doué | Just two minutes later, Doué swung over a pinpoint cross to the far post where Dembélé arrived unchecked to head past Donnarumma. 0–2. |
| 32' | Vitinha (PSG) | Unassisted | Vitinha rounded off a lightning team move, arriving at the edge of the box to place a clinical third into the corner as the Etihad fell silent. 0–3 HT. |
| 53' | Haaland (MCI) | Iliman Ndiaye | Triple half-time sub Ndiaye stretched the Parisian defence and whipped a teasing cross that Haaland cleverly flicked home from close range. 1–3. |
| 62' | Akliouche (PSG) | Unassisted | With City pressing, Akliouche unleashed a speculative 20-yard effort that squirmed past Donnarumma. 1–4. |
| 75' | Haaland (MCI) | Ayyoub Bouaddi | 18-year-old substitute Bouaddi drove to the byline and cut back for Haaland to finish emphatically. 2–4. Haaland reaches 37 UCL goals for City — a new club record. |
Enzo Maresca's build-up structure was ruthlessly exposed in transition. Without Rodri marshalling rest defence, Vitinha and Zaïre-Emery repeatedly sprang Doué and Dembélé into acres of space behind Gvardiol and Khusanov. Three first-half goals in 32 minutes left City shellshocked — the Etihad, already muted by a season-long cloud of controversy, had no answers.
Maresca's triple half-time substitution (Ndiaye, Bouaddi, Matheus Nunes) created a second-half flurry — Haaland bagged two, Enzo Fernández hit the woodwork — but the damage was insurmountable. Donnarumma also saved a late Ferran Torres penalty in stoppage time. The verdict from the Commission found 114 charges proven. The verdict from Wednesday found them four goals short of the European champions. Both verdicts sting.

| 20' | de Roon (ASR) | Matías Soulé | Soulé laid off for De Roon, who struck a ferocious 25-yard scorcher that deflected past a wrong-footed Thibaut Courtois. 1–0. |
| 25' | Mbappé (RMA) | Yan Diomande | Diomande slipped a through ball; Mbappé's strike took a heavy deflection off Mancini's shinpad to leave Gollini stranded. 1–1. |
| 51' | Malen (ASR) | Rodrigo Mora | Vinícius gave the ball away with a careless backheel; half-time sub Mora slipped Malen through to finish over Courtois via a deflection. 2–1. |
| 57' | Malen (ASR) | Matías Soulé | Soulé released Malen on a lethal counter; Malen timed his run (Valverde keeping him onside via VAR) and slotted home for his brace. 3–1 Roma! |
| 83' | Espí (RMA) | Unassisted | A short corner routine saw Endrick's near-post header parried by Gollini; 19-year-old sub Carlos Espí pounced on the loose ball to prod home. 3–2. |
| 85' | Endrick (RMA) | Arda Güler | From another corner, Güler whipped an inch-perfect cross to the near post where Endrick glanced a magnificent header into the far corner. 3–3! |
| 90' | Rüdiger (RMA) | Arda Güler | Roma's zonal marking collapsed completely: Güler's corner sailed to the back post, and former Roma defender Rüdiger volleyed home the 90th-minute winner! 3–4! |
Gian Piero Gasperini's Roma pressed brilliantly for 75 minutes, with Soulé, Malen, and De Roon dominating the physical duels while Manu Koné was lost early to injury. A Donyell Malen brace in the 51st and 57th minutes put Roma 3–1 ahead — threatening to humiliate their former coach José Mourinho in the Olimpico cauldron.
Mourinho turned the match with three substitutions: Arda Güler, Endrick, and Carlos Espí. Real Madrid capitalised ruthlessly on Roma's set-piece marking frailty, scoring three goals from corners in a breathtaking seven-minute blitz. Three-one down. Four-three winners. You do not panic when you are Real Madrid. You simply score three goals from set-pieces. The Couch watches this and updates every tournament simulation accordingly.

| 30' | Tresoldi (BRU) | Penalty | Brugge countered from an Inter corner: Carlos Forbs sprinted box-to-box before being tripped by Çalhanoğlu. Tresoldi roofed the penalty past Josep Martínez. 0–1. |
| 44' | Lautaro (INT) | Federico Dimarco | Marcus Thuram surged down the left and laid off for Dimarco, whose back-heel flick was swept in from six yards by Lautaro. 1–1. |
| 63' | Tresoldi (BRU) | Carlos Forbs | Dimarco was caught by Forbs's electrical pace down the right; keeper Martínez was stranded and Tresoldi tapped into an empty net. 1–2. |
| 74' | Tresoldi (BRU) | Unassisted | Hat-trick! Martínez parried a fierce drive from Forbs, but Tresoldi was quickest to react, pouncing on the rebound to complete the treble. 1–3. |
| 81' | Lautaro (INT) | Unassisted | Yann Sommer parried a screamer from Sučić; Lautaro pounced to poke home his second. 2–3. |
| 87' | Vermant (BRU) | Carlos Forbs | Djed Spence's errant pass was intercepted by Forbs, who slipped Vermant through to dink the ball over Martínez. 2–4. |
| 90+3' | Bonny (INT) | Stanković | Stanković slipped Bonny through; the summer signing curled a sublime right-footed finish into the far top corner. 3–4. |
The shock of the tournament, possibly the shock of the decade. Cristian Chivu's Inter — without the injured John Stones and Curtis Jones — played an excessively high line with Akanji and Bisseck. Carlos Forbs completely terrorised Inter on the break: assisting two goals, winning the penalty, and creating the rebound for Tresoldi's third. The 22-year-old Italian striker, born to Italian parents and a lifelong Milan fan, returned to his homeland to score a hat-trick at the most famous ground in Italian football.
Inter dominated possession and fired shot after shot, but Brugge's transition pace was unplayable on the night. The Couch predicted Inter 2–0. The Couch watched in horror as four Belgian goals punctured San Siro. Zero points for Chivu's Inter after two games. Full credit to Brugge — this is what the expanded Champions League was designed to produce.

| 12' | Manzambi (AVL) | Boubacar Kamara | Manzambi dazzled on the edge of the area; his low shot took a wicked deflection off Škriniar to leave keeper Ederson completely stranded. 1–0. |
| 31' | N. Jackson (AVL) | Boubacar Kamara | Kamara threaded an inch-perfect through-ball; Jackson raced clear and arrowed an emphatic finish to Ederson's right. 2–0. |
| 39' | N. Jackson (AVL) | Unassisted | Just eight minutes later, Jackson pounced on a loose defensive error, cut inside, and smashed his second past Ederson. 3–0 HT. |
| 68' | Barkley (AVL) | Penalty | Manzambi's fast feet enticed a wild foul from İsmail Yüksek in the box; Barkley stepped up and tucked away the spot-kick expertly. 4–0. |
| 72' | Barkley (AVL) | Unassisted | Barkley collected outside the box and unleashed a left-footed strike that took a deflection and sailed past Ederson for his brace. 5–0. |
| 90' | T. Abraham (AVL) | Alysson | Two substitutes combined: Alysson broke down the right and laid the ball on a plate for Abraham to tap in Villa's historic sixth. 6–0. |
Under the Villa Park lights, Unai Emery's side were simply unstoppable. Goalkeeper Zion Suzuki made a vital 17th-minute save against Vedat Muriqi, after which Villa's midfield duo of Boubacar Kamara and Ross Barkley dominated every duel. Kamara was architect of the opening two goals; Jackson was merciless with his clinical brace in the first 39 minutes; and Fenerbahçe manager Ismail Kartal had no answers to the pace of Jackson and 18-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye on the flanks.
Six-nil. The biggest victory in Aston Villa's European history. Jackson with two, Barkley with two, and Tammy Abraham sweeping home the historic sixth. When Emery's Villa are at home in Europe under the lights, they are something genuinely special to watch. The Couch predicted Villa 2–1. The Couch spectacularly underestimated Emery. Villa Park was terrifying.

| 22' | Araújo (LIV) | Kostas Tsimikas | Tsimikas whipped in an outswinging corner; Araújo rose majestically to power a header past Tobias Lawal. 0–1. |
| 24' | Barcola (LIV) | Lewis Koumas | Youngster Koumas broke down the right and slipped a clever square pass; Barcola took a touch and slotted into the bottom corner. 0–2. |
| 37' | Barcola (LIV) | Florian Wirtz | Wirtz pulled the strings with a magnificent disguised through-ball; Barcola timed his run and curled past Lawal for his second. 0–3 HT. |
| 51' | Frimpong (LIV) | Florian Wirtz | Wirtz's second assist: sliding Frimpong into space on the overlap to drill low across goal into the far corner. 0–4. |
| 66' | Barcola (LIV) | Victor Muñoz | Hat-trick hero! Barcola latched onto Muñoz's feed, dancing past his marker to sweep home Liverpool's fifth. 0–5. |
| 77' | Flecker (LASK) | Sascha Horvath | LASK pulled one back as Flecker capitalised on loose marking from a set-piece. 1–5. |
| 82'–90' | End-to-End Finish | With Iraola resting starters, LASK added two late goals around another Liverpool response to close out an incredible 3–6 scoreline. | |
Andoni Iraola's Reds arrived in Linz under heavy scrutiny following a domestic defeat to Man City. Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo remained sidelined; Ryan Gravenberch rested ahead of his domestic suspension. Iraola gave Barcola and Wirtz total creative freedom — the duo dismantled LASK's high line at will. Ronald Araújo's 22nd-minute header gave Liverpool the platform, and Barcola's three-goal haul from a £100m signing who had waited seven appearances announced himself in the most emphatic way.
Wirtz delivered two assists. While the late concession of three sloppy goals irritated Iraola, the offensive rhythm was breathtaking. The Couch predicted Liverpool 3–1. Liverpool scored six and conceded three. The Couch was right about the win but needs blood pressure medicine for the defensive transitions.

| 62' | Timber (ARS) | Noni Madueke | Madueke spotted Timber invading a blind spot on the overlap; Timber took a sensational touch in close quarters and dinked over keeper Berke Özer. 1–0. |
| 67' | Eze (ARS) | Bukayo Saka | Arteta's triple sub made instant impact: Ødegaard won the ball, fed Saka down the right, and Saka's first-time cross was buried by Eze. 2–0. |
| 71' | Saka (ARS) | Kai Havertz | All three subs involved: Ødegaard slipped Havertz into the box, Havertz cut back cleanly, and Saka curled into the far corner. 3–0. |
Arsenal started Timber, Bruno Guimarães, Merino, Eze, and Gyökeres — five changes from the weekend win over Leeds. Lille deployed a disciplined deep block in the opening 60 minutes, limiting the Gunners to speculative efforts. But the 65th-minute introduction of Ødegaard, Saka, and Havertz overwhelmed the French side in a devastating nine-minute spell.
Three goals in nine second-half minutes. Two clean sheets from two Champions League matches. Six points. Arsenal sit top of Europe. Arteta's European education — after two painful exits — is being demonstrated in the most emphatic way possible. The Gunners are here.

| 28' | Batrakov (GAL) | Rafael Leão | Leão drove to the byline and pulled back a cutback; Batrakov arrived at the edge of the area to fire past Joan García. 1–0. RAMS Park erupts. |
| 43' | Cancelo (BAR) | Unassisted | Cancelo picked up a clearance 22 yards out, jinked past his marker, and drove a low left-footed effort into the corner. 1–1. |
| 50' | Fermín (BAR) | Lamine Yamal | Yamal drew three defenders with dazzling footwork and slipped Fermín, who slotted calmly into the bottom corner. 1–2. |
| 53' | Gordon (BAR) | Lamine Yamal | Yamal's second assist: an exquisite curling pass behind the back three for summer arrival Gordon to finish cleanly. First UCL goal for Barça. 1–3. |
| 65' | Adeyemi (BAR) | Unassisted | Adeyemi capitalised on a defensive giveaway, bursting away with raw pace to slide the ball past Muslera. 1–4. |
RAMS Park was rocking when 21-year-old Russian winger Aleksey Batrakov gave Galatasaray an electric 28th-minute lead. But Hansi Flick's title favourites kept their nerve, equalising through João Cancelo before running away with the match through Fermín López, Anthony Gordon (his first UCL goal for the club), and Karim Adeyemi.
Lamine Yamal took the game over in the second half. Operating with total tactical freedom, Yamal's two assists within three minutes completely broke Galatasaray's resistance — no goals, but two decisive contributions that made him the match's outstanding player. Nine goals in two Champions League appearances, zero conceded. Two games. Nine goals. Barcelona look every bit the tournament favourites the Couch declared them in the UCL Bible. The machine hums.

| 1' | Barrios (ATM) | Baena | Just 47 seconds in: Baena seized on a loose pass from United's midfield and fed Barrios to slot past Onana. Lightning start. |
| 67' | 🟥 Yoro | — | Leny Yoro received a straight red card for a last-man professional foul on Giuliano Simeone racing clean through on goal. |
| 79' | Lookman (ATM) | Jonathan David | Jonathan David threaded a delicate through-ball; Lookman took one touch and blasted past Onana into the roof of the net. 2–0. |
The Riyadh Air Metropolitano in a Champions League night is one of Europe's most oppressive environments. Diego Simeone's side made it even more so by scoring 47 seconds into the match, through Pablo Barrios capitalising on a loose pass from United's makeshift midfield. Without Manuel Ugarte (knee injury), Benjamin Šeško, and Patrick Dorgu, United never found the physical presence to compete with Atlético's engine room.
Leny Yoro's straight red for a professional foul on Giuliano Simeone — with United already a goal down — ended whatever tactical hope remained. Lookman sealed it in the 79th minute. Two shots on target across ninety minutes from Carrick's side. The Metropolitano remains one of European football's truly impenetrable fortresses. United face a significant climb to secure automatic qualification from the league phase.

| 2' | Stensness (VIK) | Zlatko Tripić | Just two minutes in, Australian defender Stensness rose above Bayern's centre-backs to head past Manuel Neuer from Tripić's corner. SR-Bank Arena delirium! |
| 38' | Christiansen (VIK) | Zlatko Tripić | Tripić slipped Christiansen in behind; the forward fired low past Neuer to make it 2–0 at half-time. The whole country is watching. |
| 54' | Kane (BAY) | Penalty | Bayern were awarded a spot-kick after a foul in the box; Kane sent the keeper the wrong way. 2–1. |
| 60' | Kane (BAY) | Michael Olise | Olise drove into the box and squared for Kane to slot home his second goal of the evening. 2–2. |
| 71' | Díaz (BAY) | Joshua Kimmich | Kimmich's lofted pass found Díaz, who cut inside and drilled past the keeper to put Bayern 3–2 ahead. |
| 80' | 🟥 Olise | — | Olise was shown a straight red card for an altercation with Viking captain Tripić. 10-man Bayern defend frantically. |
| 90' | Haugen (VIK) | Unassisted | Unbelievable scenes! With Bayern down to ten men, Haugen scrambled the ball home in the 90th minute to send Stavanger into pandemonium! 3–3! |
Norwegian underdogs Viking FK raced into a stunning 2–0 lead against Vincent Kompany's German juggernaut — Stensness with a header in the 2nd minute, Christiansen with a cool finish at the break. The artificial surface, the gusting North Sea wind, and the wall of sound from the SR-Bank Arena conspired against Bayern.
Bayern roared back through a Kane brace and Díaz's thunderbolt to lead 3–2 with ten minutes left. Then Olise was sent off for an altercation with Tripić. And in the 90th minute, Haugen bundled home the equaliser to spark pandemonium. The Couch predicted Viking 0–4 Bayern. Viking scored three, earned a point, and made the Couch look wonderfully ridiculous. Pure Champions League magic.

| 52' | Sjøvold (BOD) | Berg | Berg won a loose clearance and laid off to Sjøvold, who unleashed a screaming 25-yard drive past Kobel into the top corner. Aspmyra erupts. |
The Arctic Circle has claimed another European titan. Niko Kovač's Borussia Dortmund — European finalists not so long ago, a side with Guirassy and genuine knockout-round ambitions — travelled north of the Arctic Circle and were ambushed by the compact, patient, utterly determined champions of Norway.
Bodø/Glimt's 4-3-3 stifled Guirassy and Adeyemi with a defensive organisation that belied their modest resources. Patrick Berg's screening of the penalty box was a masterclass of positioning. Fredrik Sjøvold's 52nd-minute screamer from 25 yards was the decisive moment — and Dortmund could not find a way through. The Couch originally had Dortmund winning comfortably. European away days in Norway are a completely different sport. Dortmund humbled. Bodø heroic. The Arctic keeps surprising us.
Also Wednesday: In Baku, Azerbaijani debutants Sabah FK — from Man Utd's MD1 victims — made history of their own on Tuesday by defeating Slavia Praha 2–0 with goals from McCarthy (32') and Sekidika (67'). Sabah's first-ever Champions League win. The expanded format continues to deliver extraordinary stories.
Six from ten. The Couch correctly identified Madrid's European class, Liverpool's bounce-back, Villa's dominance, Arsenal's European credentials, Barcelona's machine, and Atlético's fortress. The Couch catastrophically failed to foresee Brugge's San Siro hat-trick, Viking's 89th-minute equaliser against Bayern, Bodø/Glimt's Arctic ambush of Dortmund, and — most humblingly — PSG's 4–2 evisceration of Man City that began before the kettle had finished boiling.
Nine clubs lead the 36-team league phase with perfect six-point records after two matchdays. The expanded format is delivering — quality and chaos in equal measure. Six rounds to go before the Round of 16 seedings are determined.

Eight further matches across the two nights — and even those delivered their own drama. Sabah FK made history in Baku. Stuttgart continued their impressive European form. Como extended their Champions League adventure with another big home night. The Swiss model does not do quiet evenings.
