447 Premier League Minutes Without A Goal — Until MW5 Manzambi · Jackson · Buenía — Villa Score Three Away battleSTAR Galáctico: Emiliano Buenía

Spurs Finally Score. Still Lose. De Zerbi Has A Problem.

Four hundred and forty-seven Premier League minutes without a goal. That was the number haunting the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before kick-off. When the drought finally ended — in the 86th minute, through Conor Gallagher — Spurs were already three goals down. The goalscoring curse was finally broken, but not too many fans got to see it as the stadium had already emptied out in disappointment.

Spurs had a relatively good first half, and looked threatening multiple times. But it was Villa who struck — that was when Spurs were a man down due to an injured player being off the field. Andoni Manzambi put them ahead in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time — a moment that immediately deflated N17. Jackson made it two on 67 minutes with a clinical finish that Kinsky could do nothing about. Emiliano Buendía sealed it in the 79th minute, making it 3–0 with a brilliant shot from outside the box. At that point, the stadium was silent. Villa had taken control and were toying with Spurs.

Then, with the game well beyond reach, Spurs finally found their scoring touch. Gallagher pulled one back in the 86th minute — the goal that ended the 447-minute drought. Jean Paul van Hecke added a second in the 90th+8, with the last kick of the game, to make it 3–2. The scoreline may make the game look like it was close, like it was competitive. It was anything but. Full time at 3–2. Villa’s first Premier League win of the season.

Roberto De Zerbi’s position deserves scrutiny. His system is recognisable, his ideas seem clear (just not to the playing eleven, I guess), and his squad contains genuine quality — Marmoush, Savio, Tonali, van Hecke. These are quality players. But the results are dreadful. Five games played. Two points. At the bottom — 20th position — of the Premier League table. The goalscoring drought masked deeper structural problems, and those problems did not disappear when Gallagher finally put the ball in the net in the 86th minute staring at a 3–0 scoreline.

For Villa, this was exactly the result they needed. Unai Emery had been under pressure because of the lack of goals, and results — the football had been disjointed, the chances being missed too regularly. But Villa showed real attacking fluency against Spurs: direct, purposeful, and ruthless in the key moments. Four points from five games is a platform. It’s not great. But it’s a beginning. battleSTAR Galáctico: Emiliano Buenía — the decisive third goal when it was needed most, brilliant in front of goal at the most important moment of the game.
