Jonathan David scored a hat-trick on home soil in Vancouver — the first hat-trick ever scored in a men's World Cup match on Canadian soil, and the second hat-trick of this tournament after Messi's. With this game as comfortable as it gets and the result long since decided, John Herdman had no reason to risk his most important player. Canada didn't need him.
