Match Report

South Korea came from behind to beat Czechia 2-1 in Guadalajara, completing a second-half turnaround that was as dramatic as it was deserved. The Taeguk Warriors dominated for large stretches, racking up 15 shots to Czechia's eight — but they were punished for profligacy when the Czechs struck against the run of play.

The first half was Son Heung-min's show without a goal to show for it. South Korea's captain had a long-range effort saved in the 39th minute and twice more forced saves before the break — the most agonising coming at 56 minutes when Son ran clean into the box and was denied by a sharp reaction stop from goalkeeper Matěj Kovář. He looked, at times, like a man determined to carry his country on his back and being told no by fate at every turn.

Three Things We Learned

1. South Korea Are Genuinely Dangerous

Fifteen shots, relentless pressure, and a comeback from behind. This is not a team that will sit back and manage a result — they press, they attack, and their second-half substitutions changed the game. Do not underestimate what they could do against Mexico in Matchday 2.

2. Son Doesn't Need to Score to Control a Game

Three saves forced, space created for others, defenders dragged out of position all afternoon. Son without a goal still made Czechia's defensive life miserable. When he does finally score at this tournament, it will be worth the wait.

3. Czechia's Set-Piece Threat Is Real — But That's All They Have

Krejčí's header was excellent. But Czechia's goal was their only meaningful moment of the game. South Korea outshot them 15-8, out-pressed them, and out-thought them for the majority of 90 minutes. The Czech Republic will need to improve significantly if they want points from Mexico and South Africa.
